After my dad passed away unexpectedly in November 2020, our family needed a home—and we needed one quickly. At the time, we were living in a camper (that’s a wild story!). Locust became our shelter during a very difficult storm: a small house that gave us somewhere safe to land when life felt uncertain.

Eventually, our traveling days ended and our family needed more room. But I loved that little house too much to let it go. I believed it could become a wonderful place for other people to stay—and, for the first time in a long time, I stepped outside of “mom mode” and allowed myself to create something of my own.

I cared for it. I shaped it. I built it into something I was proud of.

That house became Lucky 7s, and Lucky 7s became the beginning of House of Voigts.

Then came the Worker’s Retreat and The Landing. I saw a need in Pontiac for furnished homes designed for more than a weekend—safe, comfortable places for people working away from home, relocating, or simply needing somewhere to live for a while. I knew I could create the kind of place that would help a new town feel a little more familiar.

Next came the Turck-Harris House on Walnut Street. Its history is woven into the history of Pontiac, but it is also part of my own story. As we bring it back to life, my hope is to honor both: creating a home filled with warmth, nostalgia, and a sense of place for the visitors and families who will stay there next.

Somewhere along the way, my love of homes led me to become a licensed real estate agent. I quickly learned that what I loved most wasn’t selling houses.

It was seeing what they could become.

House of Voigts grew from that realization. We restore homes with stories, care for the details that make them feel welcoming, and give them a new purpose as quality furnished homes for the people who come to Pontiac.

Because sometimes a home is more than where you stay.
Sometimes, it is where you find your footing again.
